GLENMORE REPORT 10th JUNE 2018

On Saturday last a small group from Glenmore AC travelled to compete in the Leinster U9-U11 pairs and U12 &U13 Championships in Tullamore. A long day in tough conditions in the sunshine proved worthwhile as three girls made the journey home as Leinster champions and two more with silver medals. All the girls competed strongly in their events on the day.

Aoife Mc Donald and Aine Finnegan competed in the U9 pairs turbo javelin and long jump. Molly Anne Moore ran a great heat as did Sarah Murphy, both competing in the U10 300m and also in the long jump. Emma Mc Carragher and Jessica White ran the U11 500m. Emma Mc Carragher and Grace Keenan competed strongly in the turbo javelin and finished 4th and qualify for the all Ireland finals. Katie Mc Donald and Grace Keenan competed in the U11 long jump. Chloe Mc Carragher and Ava Ashby competed in the U13 shot putt gaining great experience on the day. Ava Ashby also competed in the 600m and 80m, and younger sister Mia Ashby competed in the U12 60m and shot putt.

Our medal winners on the day who all will represent the club in the All Ireland Championships were Lucy White, Jessica White and Katie Mc Donald, and Gillian Touhy and Zoe White. Lucy White competed very strongly in the girls U13 80m sprint. She was a convincing winner in the final having finished first in her heat and semi final. Lucy now adds the Leintser outdoor title to her Leinster indoor title for 2018. Katie Mc Donald and Jessica White took gold in the U11 pairs 60m. Across a huge field of athletes over 10 heats the girls ran fantastic in their heats with their combined times earning them the Leinster title. Gillian Tuohy and Zoe White competed in the U9 pairs 60m and 300m, Zoe who was carrying and arm injury ran well in both events and Gillian did likewise in her heats over both events. The girls finished a deserving second in both the 60m and 300m. Unfortunately an error on the day omitted the girls combined times from the leader board and they missed out on being presented with their medals on the day.

Lucy White and Katie Mc Donald also represented Louth in the Leinster inter county relays in their respective ages with Lucy winning gold with the U13 team.

A number of athletes competed in the Community Games on Sunday also. Winners on the day who now represent the club at the national finals were Ruby Steeples who took gold in the sprint, Craig Tuohy who was second in the ball throw, Gillian Tuohy took silver in her sprint and the mixed relay team who finished third: team Craig Tuohy, Ava Ashby, Elliot Nichols, Ellen Callan and Sarah Mallon.

A great weekend had by everyone, Well done to all athletes who competed.
