Glenmore Report 29th April 2019

Glenmore AC athletes excel this week from 7k to 110k!!

Wednesday 17th April saw Glenmore athlete Ciaran Flynn (32.13) achieve a super result in The Glen of the Down, an IMRA race , with a distance of 7.8km. Ciaran was placed not only 2nd MJ but was 9th overall in a very completive field of 171 other athletes . The Glen of the Downs course in the Wicklow mountains has a mix of everything , steep climbs, fast tricky descents and good quality dirt trails in a beautiful setting.

Friday 19th April saw Donal McMoreland (17:53) run in the Good Friday 5k road race in Grange, Co Sligo, his native county, with a spectacular finish line view of Benbulben mountain, well done Donal on another fast time.

Congratulations to Martin Toner (38:10) who took 2nd place on the podium of Louth County Council’s 10k event, in aid of SOSAD, on Saturday 20th April in Dundalk , also well done Erin Mc Greehan who also completed the 10k event.

And finishing off the week was Glenmore AC athlete Shane Lynch who braved the IMRA Wicklow Round Challenge!! It is a looped course covering 26 peaks totalling over 100K and over 6,000M of a climb all within 24 hours. An absolutely proud moment for Shane and for Glenmore AC as Shane not only came 1st in this challenge he also smashed the course record by 3 minutes!!! Shane himself said ‘ there was a lot of high and low moments to fight through during the day and the last few km’s on the road took one hell of a mental pull being so close to the record’ This was an incredible solo challenge and one that Shane can be very proud of. Well done Shane , you’re an inspiration.

Good luck to our Marathon team who are beginning their taper in preparation for the upcoming Belfast Marathon on Sunday 5th May.
