Glenmore report 30th January 2017

On Sunday last a great turn out of our juveniles headed to the Geraldines GFC to compete in the Blackrock AC Cross Country event, the first of 2017 in Louth. A cool, crisp, dry morning, perfect conditions to ease ourselves back into cross country season. The day proved a very successful one.

First up were sister and brother, Anna and Mario Liam who competed in their first event running really well in the U7 and U9. Our U9 girls finished very strong with Zoe White leading the girl’s home in 3rd position. Aoife Mc Donald and Gillian Touhy completed the team who took the gold medal on the day with Sophie Cummiskey and Mya Bailey finishing well. Our U11 girls ran a great 1000m race, Jessica White, Emma Mc Carragher, Ellen Callan, Grace Keenan, Katie Mc Donald, Leah Dunne, Aine O Reilly, Aoife Keenan and Ruby Steeples all competing on the day. Craig Touhy, Elliot Nichols, and Cian Magee ran well in the boys U11 event. In the U13 1500m Glenmore girls claimed the bronze team medal with Lisa Conlon, Ava Brady, and Lucy White followed by Chloe Mc Carragher, Sarah Mallon and Megan Steeples. U13 boys finished just outside the medals Fionn Reilly leading the team of James Dunne and Cormac Mc Coy. U15 girls claimed the silver team medal running 2000m, Katie Conlon claimed bronze individual medal followed by Blainaid Murphy, Nicole Barry and Anna Mc Ardle.

U17, U19 and fit for Life competitors ran a brave 2500m with Sinead McErlane 1st and Hannah Stewart 3rd in the U19 girls, Katie Mallon in the girls U17 event, and our coach Gavin White taking gold in the fit for life event.

Well done to all our competitors and supporters who turned out on the day.

This week we had a number of our athletes taking part in the North Leinster schools cross country event. All our girls made it through to the Leinster Championships making the top 15 in their age group: St Vincents Katie Conlon (minor girls), Sinead Mc Erlane (senior girls), Bush Anna Mc Ardle (junior girls), St Louis Hannah Stewart (senior girls). Katie’s school team 2nd, Sinead’s 2nd and Hannah’s 3rd.
