Athletes do club proud in All-Irelands
|Glenmore AC was delighted to see 4 of their young athletes step up to the plate and travel to Tullamore on Saturday 12th July to compete in the All Ireland B Championships. Katelyn Quinn took bronze medal position in the high jump, while Niamh Rice took silver in the long jump. Ciara Quinn and Nicole Barry also competed and all four did their club proud.
On Sunday 13th July, The All Ireland Championships were also held in Tullamore and representing Glenmore AC were Chloe Barry (Girls U-15 long jump) and Paul McGlynn (Boys U-15 long jump). Both had excellent jumps and proved themselves to be very strong competitors amongst Ireland’s best. Aaron McGuigan also competed in the Dunleer 4mile road race on Sunday, finishing a strong second in the junior men’s category.
Congratulations to Joan Farnon, Fit 4 Life athlete, who competed in the very challenging Achill half Marathon in just over 2 hours 10 on Saturday 5th July & to John Kane and Paul Savage who won the Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge Pairs event in 4 hours 41. Also on Saturday 5th July in yet another venue, John Daley represented Glenmore AC in the Clontarf Half Marathon. These athletes are among many in training for our own annual Carlingford 5km Road Race. The Michael Fearon & Kevin Marron 5km Road Race promoted by Glenmore AC will take place on Friday 1st August at 8pm in Carlingford, Co. Louth. Walkers and Joggers are welcome. With a €200 prize for a new course record the contenders are lining up! The current holder is Freddie Keiron Sittuk with 14.48. The Michael Fearon & Kevin Marron Men and Ladies senior team (1st 4 home) cups are currently held by North East Runners. There are also prizes for 1st two Vet Men over 40/45/50/55/60/65 & 1st two Vet Ladies over 40/45/50/55 as well as 1st four senior Men and Ladies, 1st three Junior Boys/Girls U17 and U19 as well as Junior 1st and 2nd teams of 3.
The evening will begin with Juvenile Boys & Girls races U9/11/13/15 at 7pm sharp for €2 on the line. As usual, there will be refreshments and a presentation in the Hall afterwards. We look forward to a pleasant evening in picturesque village of Carlingford. Online registration is via www.precisiontiming.net and on the day from 6-7.30pm.
