Senior Report – 14th May 2018
|Huge congratulations to Glenmore Athlete Donal McMoreland who successfully completed and took 3rd position in the Ballyhoura Trail Ultra Marathon, a distance of 58Km, on Saturday 5th May in Kilfinane, Co. Limerick
Senior Glenmore AC athletes enjoyed a fantastic day out in Belfast at the 37th Belfast City Marathon with around a total of 17000 other runners.
Glenmore AC’s 5 Relay Teams took to the start line in front of Belfast City Hall, in the BCM relay team event, they all completed their individual legs under some very warm weather conditions.

Glenmore Team E Lorraine Mc Cann, Katie Mallon, Joan Farron, Stephanie Malone, Theresa Keenan. 4:10:06 placed 758
Along with the Marathon relay teams 4 Glenmore Athletes took on the full marathon distance and completed the course with near to 3000 other Marathoners , they displayed an excellent example of team work throughout the course and crossed the line in the Ormeau park with a very strong finish.
Stephen O’Connor 3:54:13, Fiona Mc Quade 3:54:14, Ronan Callan 3:54:14 (PB) and John Doyle 3:59:16.
Big congratulations to Glenmore Relay Team B on their superb finishing time and team placement of 45th out of near 2200 other relay teams and a special mention and well done to Tony Purcell who had successfully completed our very own GlenmoreBush4mation 0 -5K training programme in January and has kept up his training and completed his first race as part of the relay team. Also congrats to Ronan on his marathon PB , very well deserved
Later in the week and after a very wet day the clouds dispersed in time for the runners to line up for the start of the 8th year of the Cooley Coast Run on Friday evening. The race starts and finishes at the Cooley Kickham’s complex. This race was very well supported by Glenmore AC athletes, both senior and juvenile , which was also reflected in the winning achievements on the night. Glenmore athletes Peter Noone (18:58) , Gerard White (21:01) and Tony Ashby (21:19) took 1st , 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the 5K race followed very strongly by Paul Flanagan (22:54), Katie Mallon (23:05) Ava Ashby (23:51), Mia Ashby (24:59), Elizabeth Rafferty (30:20) Niamh Arnold (31:34) and the O’Connor family Aaron and Mum Niamh (31:34) followed by Emma and Dad Stephen (31:35) also over the line for Glenmore was the Elmore Family Alana (36:27) and her Dad Tony (36:31) who achieved 1st prize in O50 category.
The 10k course record was broke on the night by Darragh Greene so congratulations to Darragh on setting the new record of 31:28. Our very own Shane Toner (34:40) finished very strongly in 3rd position, followed by Ciaran Walsh (38:13) 1st O40 male, Tadhg Leahy(40:24), Tony Mulligan (40:26) 1st O50 male, Kevin Harnet (41:10)PB, Michael Mc Shane (43:32), Ian Arnold (43:52) 2nd junior male, John Kane (44:15) and first female over the line for Glenmore was Sarah Walsh (47:13) followed by Sarah Dooney (47:42), and next home was Shane Arnold (47:54), Gavin White (48:17), Kevin Mc Donald (50:20), Nuala White (52:50) , Geraldine McGrath (57:02), Stephanie Malone (59:19) and Sandra Gormley (59:32). A special mention of Stephen, Katie, Kevin, Paul, Gavin, Geraldine and Stephanie who had also competed earlier in the week at the Belfast city marathon and relay team events and still managed to show their support for the Cooley coast run and Kevin managed a super PB on the night, a big congratulations to all the athletes who competed in this well organised race.
