Cooley Coast Run and Blackrock Beach Races 2019
|Another week of podium wins for Glenmore AC athletes.
Congratulations to Glenmore AC athlete, Margaret Purcell (02:01:07) who took part in The Searlait Tywang Memorial Road Run, Kilkenny, on Sunday 12th May. This is a fantastic family friendly event, very well organised from start to finish and for a very worthy cause.
Kicking off from the Cooley Kickham’s complex on Friday 17th May was the Cooley Coast run, in its 9th year. This event had its usual great local buzz around it and is always well supported with Glenmore AC athletes. Congratulations to Ciaran Flynn( 17:58 ) and James Dunne ( 17:59 ) on a fantastic run and split second finish with scooping respectively 1st and 2nd overall winning positions in the 5K race. Also a fantastic run and win for Lisa Conlon (19:07) and Ava Ashby(22:05) who scooped the 1st and 2nd female positions respectively. Well done to Stephen O’Connor (19:22), Ian Arnold (20:21) and Tony Ashby(20:26) who all finished within the top 12 athletes. Congrats to all the other Glenmore athletes who competed in the 5k race Paul Flanagan, Shane Arnold, Katie Mallon, Mia Ashby, Nuala White, Kevin Mc Donald, Niamh Arnold, Annmarie Rice, Siobhan Rice and Caitlin Mc Ardle.
In the 10K event congratulations to Martin Toner (37:02) on 3rd place overall and Fiona Mc Quade (44:27) on 3rd female to cross the line. Glenmore athletes scooped the category prizes Ciaran Walsh (37:52)1st MO40, Lorraine Dunne (44:48) 1st FO40, Patrick White (42:13)1st MO45, Kenneth Mc Bride (40:48) 1st MO50, Sarah Dooney(47:04)1st FO50 and Margaret Purcell (53:22) 3rd FO50. Congrats to all the other Glenmore AC athletes who competed Kevin Harnett, Gavin White, Joan Farnon, Bridget Mc Greehan, Erin Mc Greehan, Rose White, Stephanie Malone, Barry Woods and Tony Elmore. Special mention to Lorraine and Kevin, both making a strong come back from recent injuries.
A handful of our juvenile athletes made their way to Blackrock on Friday evening for the infamous Blackrock beach races hosted by Blackrock AC. Congratulations to Ethan Nichols 2nd u8, Gillian Tuohy 1st u10, Elliott Nichols 3rd u12 & Ava Brady 3rd u14. The club was also represented by Ana Gaztambide, Harry Doyle, Sophie Cumiskey, Mario Liam Gaztambide & Craig Tuohy.
Congratulations to Niall Brady who formed part of the Louth relay team in the National Track & Field championships in Belfast on Sunday claiming a well deserved 2nd place.
On Saturday 18th May, Glenmore AC athlete Vicky Leahy took on a Half Marathon on the beautiful Inishbofin Island, situated on Connemara’s stunning Wild Atlantic Way. A very special event where you get to enjoy the island’s hospitality while raising vital funds for Down Syndrome Ireland, Galway Branch. Well Done Vicky.
Congratulations to Glenmore AC athlete Shane Lynch on coming 3rd in the NIMRA Championship Annalong Horseshoe fell Race, with a distance of approximately 23km, which after 37 years saw a new start and finish at Silent Valley Reservoir Co Down.
Glenmore AC would like to pass on condolence to their senior athlete Peter Noone on the very sudden loss of his brother, David, on Tuesday 14th May. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very sad time.
