Blackrock Beach Races & Club Relay’s
|Glenmore AC athletes Run Proud at Blackrock Beach Races
On Friday Night, 30 Glenmore AC juvenile athletes attended the Blackrock AC Beach races and gave their all on what was a tough course. Hannah Stewart got the night off to a great start coming 1st in the Girls U-16 750m. Next up was the Girls U-8 – Saoirse McBride and Dearbhla McBride ran their little hearts out and did themselves proud in the 250m. The Girls U-10 500m saw 5 Glenmore AC athletes line out amongst a large field of competitors for 2 laps of the course – Caoimhe McBride got into a great position early on and held onto it to finish in 3rd position followed closely by team-mates Chloe McCarragher 6th, Isobel Meehan, Lisa Conlon and Lucy White, all five crossed the line with mud-splashed faces in testament to their valiant efforts. James Sharkey blazed a trail home taking 1st place in the boys U-10 500m followed by his team-mates James McBride, Finn O’Reilly and Adam Sharkey, all of whom gave it their all and did their club proud. Five Glenmore AC athletes lined out for the Girls U-12 500m. Anna McArdle ran strongly throughout the race to come home in 3rd position, followed by Ciara Carolan 4th. Hot on their heels were buddies Nicole Barry, Katie Conlon and Brianan McBride. Next up was the boys U-12 500m – Sean Carragher and Liam Quinn both ran a great race from start to finish. In the Girls U-14 750m Ciara Quinn and Katie Mallon stood up to the plate and ran a strong race in a competitive field.
Glenmore AC was delighted to have 5 little girls line out for the Girls Tiny Tots Race – Emma McCarragher, Jessica White, Saoirse McBride, Aine O’Reilly and Niamh Carolan can be really proud of their efforts and the parents support on the sidelines was deafening. Three boys lined out for the Tiny Tots Race – Conaill Quinn, Christopher Conlon and Max Meehan. They thoroughly enjoyed their sprint along the sand and even moreso, the reward of a Freddo bar at the finish line.
The relay races were next. Glenmore AC Girls U-10 relay team Chloe McCarragher, Isobel Meehan, Lisa Conlon and Caoimhe McBride all ran a blinder on each leg of the race to finish in a well-deserved 2nd position. Boys U-10 relay team Finn O’Reilly, Adam Sharkey, James McBride and James Sharkey ran superbly throughout a very competitive race. Girls U-12 relay team Anna McArdle, Katie Conlon, Nicole Barry and Ciara Carolan blazed a trail home in 1st position. To finish a fun-filled evening on a high, Glenmore AC sisters Katelyn and Ciara Quinn joined two athletes from Ardee AC, Amy Manning and Abbie Sheridan to thunder home in 1st position, a great testament to the great comraderie between the local running clubs.
Glenmore Juvenile athletes travelled to Greystones on Saturday for the Leinster club relay competition. Both girls’ teams ran well just being pipped for qualifying through to finals amidst stiff competition. U12 Girls team were Anna McArdle, Laoise McElroy, Nicole Barry and Ciara Carolan whilst the U13 team were Ciara Quinn, Erica Quinn, Ciara Carolan and Anna McArdle. Well done to all. Meanwhile Stephen O’ Connor and Ali McEnhill both ran the Newry City half marathon, Stephen achieved a personal best and both athletes finished in under two hours.
Juvenile training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7-8pm as our athletes prepare for the up-and-coming Leinster Track and Field events in Tullamore on Saturday 7th June and The Louth Community games in The Lourdes Stadium on Sunday 8th June. The club continue to prepare for the inaugural Glenmore 10 Mile Challenge on June 14th which promises to be a great race.
