On Sunday last a small group from Glenmore AC travelled to Lourdes Stadium Drogheda to compete in the Boyne AC open track & field sports day. We had a strong female contingent with Ciaran Flynn our only male representative. It proved a worthwhile trip amongst the women as he stormed home to take the gold medal position in the U16 800m boys event.
Zoe White, Aoife Mc Donald and Cliona Byrne ran well in the U8 60m with Zoe and Aoife qualifying through the heats and Zoe White taking gold in the final. In the U10 80m Katie Mc Donald, Jessica White, Ruby Steeples and Saoirse Byrne represented the club. Katie Mc Donald took silver position in the final and Jessica White finishing outside the medals. Ellen Callan qualified to the girls U11 80m final and ran a strong race. Lucy White and Megan Steeples ran in the girls U12 100m, Lucy qualified winning her heat and finished second in the final. Lisa Conlon ran strong in the heats of the U13 100m. Katelyn Quinn finished second in the U16 100m event. Katelyn competed later in the turbo javelin and took the gold in this event finishing off a successful days work.
Zoe White, Aoife Mc Donald and Cliona Byrne competed well in the girls U8 200m with Zoe taking the silver medal. In the girls U10 500m Katie Mc Donald, Jessica White, Ruby Steeples and Saoirse Byrne all competed. In a tight start Ruby was unfortunate to fall resulting in a broken arm. She bravely got back on her feet but was unable to finish. Everyone at the club wishes Ruby a speedy recovery. Ellen Callan, Lucy White, Megan Steeples and Lisa Conlon gave their all in their respective distance events. Katie Conlon finished a well deserved 3rd in the U15 800m.
The day finished with the relays. Lucy White along with Dunleer sisters Vanessa and Danielle Brennan and Amy Jo from Oriel Monaghan took the gold in the girls U12 4*100. Sister act Jessica and Zoe White and Katie and Aoife Mc Donald finished a very strong 4th in the U10, 4*100 recovering well after an intrusion on the track at the final changeover!
A great day had by all. Well done to everyone who competed on the day.
