Glenmore Report 5th May 2019
|Another busy week for senior Glenmore AC athletes who competed in distances from 5k to Marathon distances with PBs achieved by many.
Congratulations to Martin Toner (17:32) who also finished 4th, Ciaran Walsh (18:17), Kenneth Mc Bride (19:28) Christopher Connolly (19:57) and Dara Fagan (25:52) on completing the 2nd annual Marist 5k race in Dundalk on what turned out to be a fabulous Friday evening with 500+ enthusiastic participants, well done to all involved in organising such a great event.
Congrats to Kevin Carolan (25:37) who achieved yet another PB competing in the Athletics Ireland Race Series – Irish Runner 5K in the Phoenix Park on Saturday 4th May.
Glenmore AC marathon runners shared in a bit of history on Sunday 5th May at the Belfast City Marathon, as not only was it a brand new route, it was the first time this event was permitted to take place on a Sunday. Albeit there was a few organisational issues at this event which the Organising Committee has promised to put protocols in place to prevent these occurring in further events. However these issues were overshadowed by the sheer welcome and support shown to all participants of the BCM by the people of Belfast, who came out in their thousands to line the streets and also provide great entertainment and encouragement along the WHOLE route. The Glenmore AC team was made up of Stephen O’Connor (03:24:01) PB, Fiona Mc Quade (03:36:09) PB, Ronan Callan (03:47:08) PB and Tony Ashby (03:47:34 ) PB. Like at all previous marathons these Glenmore AC athletes showed again their strength as a team and the camaraderie that was shared among them along the route had a very positive impact and is reflected in the PB’s achieved by all of them. Special shout out to fellow Glenmore athletes Peter Noone and Barry Woods who cheered them on from the sidelines.
Meanwhile our Dawn running group on Tuesdays and Thursday mornings and our weekend planned runs will be stepping their paces up a bit in preparations for our Glenmore Challenge 10m +10k road race on 8th June, this promises to be a fantastic event!
